Last February I wrote about my
gt-grandfather Albertson and his election in Sherman County Kansas as
a County Commissioner. Sometimes it pays to look over items that you
had already collected. While checking the Smalley file, I found this
copy of a document which shows that my other gt-grandfather who lived
in Sherman County was also the winner in an election. This
certificate of election shows “that at a General Election held in
said County [Sherman] on the 5 day of November A.D. 1912 L. F.
Smalley received the greatest number of votes cast for the office of
Justice of the Peace Washington Township.” The County Commissioners
did an official canvass of the returns of the election so the said L.
F. Smalley was duly elected.
